'The War of the Solstice' is provided as a free download for fans of the Midnight Trilogy, however does utilise a wide variety of paid professional game development assets.

If you enjoy this enhanced version of the game you may wish to show your appreciation by making a small contribution which will go towards supporting the asset costs of the next part of the Trilogy - The Icemark!

Hi Luxor,

I recently signed up and downloaded the game, being an old fan of LOM from my teens many many years ago. When I run the game it throws up a Microsoft Access error, but the game seems to run fine. However, I was wondering how I can save a game? Each time I start the program it seems to start a new campaign? Am I missing something simple?
Thanks
SD

Hey there

Thanks for downloading the native 32-bit version.

A few questions:
- Which platform/OS are you running on ?
- Did you apply the patch on top of the main download ?
- To which directory did you install the game and it's data ?

Note: The game auto-saves upon each Night processing. There is no "Save" button. The manual explains how to load existing campaigns as well as start new ones.

Let me know how you get on.
Thanks

Thanks Luxor.

I'm using Windows 10 Home on a Dell XPS 13. I installed the game and then the patch straight away. It installed into Program files (x86)/The Midnight Trilogy.
Great game by the way, you have certainly worked some magic!

Thanks, Steve.

Thanks Luxor (I hope this doesn't appear twice as I first replied without logging in).

I'm running Windows 10 Home in a Dell XPS 13. I installed the game and then the patch straight away. It installed to Program Files (x86)/The Midnight Trilogy.

The error message says:
Generic game engine error
in module: CGameLogger::InitialiseAll

and then some info about mdb file it is trying to access which has the same name as the campaign I created. Which makes it sound like it can't find the mdb file corresponding to my game, which is why it does not appear to be saving the game?

Thanks, Steve

Ps. great game, you have really done some amazing work!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the kind feedback. If you liked the native version, you are sure to like the Unity version which is in development ;)

Can you check whether the default campaign data got installed to the folder:
C:\ProgramData\The Midnight Trilogy\campaigns\lom\scenarios\default

There should be three files in there:
newgame._db
newgame._es
newgame._mp

If they are present, a few other things to try:
- Run the game as Administrator, see if that helps
- Uninstall and re-install the game but this time selecting a different directory for the campaign data

Many thanks

Hi Luxor,

No those folders and those particular files are not present. I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home I will try an uninstall/reinstall, that should hopefully fix it.

Sorry, I realised I should have probably put this in the forum.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Luxor,

Uninstalling the game did the trick. In the reinstall I noticed that the installer was trying to set the campaign file location as c:\ProgramData\The Midnight Trilogy\....etc. I changed this destination back to c:\Program Files (x86)/The Midnight Trilogy\ and when I ran the game it no longer threw the error and it also saved the game.

I'm not sure if that's correct but it works!
Cheers,
Steve
