Announcement: Next major release date

The next release of War of the Solstice has been scheduled for 22nd Dec 2015 (The winter solstice always seems a fitting time to me to release anything Midnight related!)

Progress has been good on the audio side this year and this is thanks again to the exceptional talents and support of Mr. Wayne Britcliffe, who over the past 18 months has written and provided numerous musical pieces, ambient tracks and sound effects for the soundtrack to the game engine. (For those who are not so familiar with Wayne’s prior involvement in War of the Solstice, he also created 99% of the 3d models and texture maps used in the 3d frontend)

Together with engine integration of FMod Studio, we have been working away at pushing the midnight environment in a new way that has not been tackled before in any other Midnight remake; a fully immersive audio environment that develops alongside the traditional gameplay. Audio adds another dimension that a purely graphical experience cannot match up to. Through the hand crafted pieces that Wayne has composed, we feel that this adds something really special to the Midnight playing experience. In a couple of months, you will be able to decide for yourself 🙂

This is the most exiting LoM news in years! A brilliant Christmas present. So will this release have all the new enhancements that have been mentioned over the past few years? Really looking forward to hearing Lords of Music, a true first. Well done for taking it forward in both 3D and sound.

BTW, you should post the date on the M/MU site. I’m not on it at the moment, but they would be very interested (well, they should be!!!!)

Do you need some beta testing?

Me again! Just a thought, will you be releasing Wayne’s soundtrack music as well? Have loved the Midnight overture all these years as a seperate piece of music.

My card reports 256mb ram/5.4 pixel rate/10.8 texel rate/32GB/s bandwith.

Might be time to update that 2007 8600GTS!

Looks like you might be right 🙂
The RAM seems to be the most limiting factor there.

These days you can get a reasonably good graphics card for about £100 (eg 750Ti), or for another £30 something like a 950GTX (which has 2Gb RAM/49.2 texel rate/105.6GB/s bandwidth.

But please take other advice on the suitability of such an upgrade to the rest of your system.

Fantastic news! I can’t wait to try it – the very best of luck.

I wonder if it would be worth your while setting up a small forum ahead of this release? There are several of free ones available. Might be a good way of generating interest, suggestions and feedback for it, along with a quick way for you to get info out to subscribers.

    I’m getting quite excited now!
